The Place: On the vibrant Phra Atit Road, Good Story stands out because of its green wood and glass exterior, resembling an Irish pub. The exterior of this Old Town joint is matched on the inside. More of the green wood panels make up a large portion of the walls and leather bound books sit on wall mounted book shelves giving off a bit of sophistication. Most tables are square, beige tables with black leather seats. Against the far wall are plush couches where guests can lounge and eat for a more relaxed dining experience.
The Crowd: Good Story's target market seems to be the local Thais who frequent the area, which include Thammasat University students, as well as young Thai professionals and families who live in the neighboring Pinklao, Thonburi and Nonthaburi residential areas. Due to its close vicinity to Khao San Road, many foreigners who have ventured just a bit further down the connecting Ram Buttri Road find Good Story's exterior to be familiar and stop in for a meal.
The Food and Drink: Good Story has a mainly Thai menu that is large and diverse. It strays away from the standard Thai fair with offerings such as ostrich in black pepper sauce (THB180), ribs in brandy sauce (THB130) and New Zealand Mussels cooked in Thai spices (THB150). They also serve a few German inspired dishes such as fried pork knuckle (THB350) and a sausage platter. Most Thai dishes range between THB130 and THB180, making this slightly more expensive then the typical shop house Thai restaurant. The drinks menu gets a little fancy with the standard European beer imports such as Stella Artois and Leffe. The usual suspects of Thai beers are also available for THB 70 - 80 for a small bottle. Standard cocktails and a small wine list are also available.
