PM Cautions on Rice Misinformation
By: Talk Bangkok
Yingluck Shinawatra has urged media outlets the verify any stories they publish about contamination of Thai rice as false allegations could undermine the credibility of Thailand's rice on the world markets and at home, reports the Bangkok Post.

The statement seems to stem from speculation spread by a TV producer who posted the unconfirmed accusations on his Facebook page. The TV producer has since worked to make amends for the error and help promote Thai rice.

The government insists not all rice is contaminated, but it is possible some bags of rice may have been exposed to chemicals due to a broken package or other random events. The government has also ordered the Rice Department to sample the state's rice stockpile to for testing and ease concerns.
